The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry filed a case against two contractors on Tuesday for wage theft and unlawful practices.During a three-year investigation of Property Maintenance and Construction LLC, Property Maintenance and Construction Inc. and Advantage Construction Inc., the DLI found “widespread wage theft and related unlawful practices on 19 separate construction projects, including the Viking Lakes project in Eagan,” according to a news release from the DLI.The investigation found that employees of PMC and Advantage were regularly not paid wages they were due, not paid overtime and paid off the books and in cash. The DLI also alleges that the violations were willful and PMC’s owner knew of overtime laws “while flouting them and refusing to pay workers the overtime wages they were owed,” per the release.“It is hard for Minnesotans to afford their lives if wages are being stolen right out of their paychecks,” Attorney General Keith Ellison said in a statement applau...Schumer stamps out final Tuberville military holds, ending months-long standoff

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday evening sought and received unanimous consent to confirm the promotions of 11 four-star generals that had been held up for months by Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R) to protest the Pentagon’s abortion policies. Schumer broke Tuberville’s blockade of more than 300 lower-ranking military promotions earlier this month, but the Alabama senator insisted at the time on holding up 11 of the highest-ranking officers so as not to capitulate completely to Democrats. Tuberville demanded at the time that the promotions of the 11 four-star generals go through regular order on the Senate floor. He wanted senators to vote on procedural motions to end debate and then vote again to confirm the military promotions individually. But Schumer kept the nominees off the floor until a few days before Christmas to ramp up pressure on Tuberville to approve them by unanimous consent. If he didn’t, senators might have been stuck churning through ...Fiery crash involving tractor trailer closes I-70 in both directions
