By Trevor BuschSunny South [email protected] the campaign for the Solidarity Movement of Alberta for the Taber-Warner riding, Brent Ginther stands for common sense principles.“The Solidarity Movement is led by Artur Pawlowski, the pastor from Calgary who keeps getting thrown in jail for when he went down to Coutts there, and giving his sermon. The party stands for a lot of common sense, conservative principles.”Ginther said he got involved with the Solidarity Movement of Alberta after a purge of the Independence Party of Alberta rescinded the membership of Pawlowski. He believes the UCP have a lot to answer for in their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.“The main reason I got into this was because Grant Hunter (Taber-Warner UCP) didn’t do the right things during COVID, and go against his party. Gov. Jared Polis vetoed a bill Tuesday that would’ve let casinos extend credit lines to gamblers, a measure that proponents said was aimed at high-rollers but critics charged would fuel risky gambling behavior. The bill — SB23-259 — would’ve let casinos extend $1,000 or more in credit to gamblers who passed certain screenings. The bill had bipartisan support — sponsors included Democrats Sen. Dylan Roberts and Rep. Marc Snyder, plus Republicans Sen. Mark Baisley and Rep. Ron Weinberg — who said it was intended to help out-of-state big spenders travel with less cash on hand and bolster the state’s casino industry.Other lawmakers, though, argued the bill could be used by problematic gamblers to fuel addictions. Polis agreed.“If the purported target of this bill is out-of-state ‘high-rollers,’ then the credit line should be geared specifically to those patrons,” the governor wrote in his letter rejecting the bill. “However, as ...

Joe Lombardo announced Wednesday a tentative agreement with the Oakland Athletics and legislative leaders for a stadium funding plan after weeks of negotiations over how much the state will contribute to a $1.5 billion Las Vegas ballpark, according to a joint statement. The tentative agreement indicates a funding bill will be introduced in the Nevada Legislature in the coming days, giving lawmakers less than two weeks to consider it before the session ends. The threat of a special legislative session looms if lawmakers can’t agree on the terms by June 5. The financing isn't a sure thing either. The announcement is on the heels of the Oakland Athletics’ agreement to use land on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip where the Tropicana Las Vegas casino resort sits — a pivot from an earlier agreement for a stadium nearby that came with a $500 million price tag that many lawmakers signaled was too high. The statement Wednesday didn't speci...
